Slow strategy games that are worth the learning curve

Not every phone game should be instant. A few of my favorites this year, like Iron Tide Command, take a full session before the systems even make sense — and that's the point. Once the map, the supply lines, and the weather all click into place, you get a depth most mobile games never reach.

My tip is to treat the first hour as tuition, not gameplay. Poke every menu, lose a battle or two on purpose, and pay attention to what actually killed your fleet. The tension of managing limited resources becomes fun only once you understand what you're risking.

These games reward reading and planning over reflexes, which makes them oddly relaxing despite the tension. If your idea of a good time is agonizing over a single decision on the couch, this corner of the genre is for you.
